DON'T STOP TIL THE PICS STOP. We have more than 50 pictures total. We want you to see EVERYTHING.
You are bidding on an interesting American Flyer COMPLETE set from 1949. THIS is the set that got Flyer in trouble--whistle in the tender. Uh-oh. Lionel had beat them to it. It has the 314AW and the control box. Collectors LOVE this set, and you will LOVE it as well--it is clean and complete.
This is a set with a clean 314AW, the 1949 version with the drawbar on the locomotive trailing truck. Everything is clean in this set.
This is A LOT of vintage train for the money, and an item you will be proud of.
Please take the time to read the whole description below before bidding. They might highlight something you can barely see.
Here is a detailed breakdown of each item for your consideration:
THE 314AW Pennsylvania K-5 4-6-2 Pacific with the whistle in tender
This steam engine and tender are super clean.
The 314AW is in full excellent cosmetic shape. Nice paint, good lettering. Shiny handrails. The boiler front is a little loose at the top as many of these are--I will let you decide if you want to tighten it. I really like the herald on the front of the engine--really nice touch that is often overlooked on these. Check out the marker lights--still green after all these years. It has the 1949 drawbar-trailing truck on the loco.
The engine is running, smoking, and sounding.
The 314AW on one side has some fade/rub to it on the numbers. The numbering on the other side is complete and nice, although a little bit light, uniformly so, suggesting from the factory.
Has a WRAPPER. Wrapper is all here with some of the usual wear on the inside. Best of all, the 314AW stamping is still strong on the wrapper.
THE 314AW WHISTLE CONTROL BOX
is about as clean as I have seen one. Sharp printing and date stamp. Nice box, too!
THIS one:

American Flyer tender with a nice big PRR keystone
Smoke
Choo-Choo
Whistle in tender
Link coupler
4-6-2 Pacific
Die Cast

FEATURES OF FREIGHT CARS:
Link couplers
With original boxes, THOUGH BOXES HAVE WEAK END FLAPS
THE 632 Lehigh New England Hopper
Clean and still shiny.
BOX: Printing legible. Printed end missing tongue.
THE 625 Shell Tank Car
Super clean. Nice strong printing and patina. Wire handrail all the way around. Some light oxidation on the handrail upon magnifying glass inspection. A little rub in the silver on the top of the car, but not real obvious.
The BOX for this one is nice. Good printing on one end.
The 630 Reading Caboose with stack, lighted
Clean and shiny. Sharp printing. Some surface rust spots on the underside.
BOX is nice, like the others. Good visible printing on it.
Printed end missing tongue.
SET BOX
Is all here. There are corner rubs and a couple of areas where the box has a tear. There is softness and creasing. The set label has worn off, but the AC Gilbert address and the box data (1948--not uncommon for this 49 set) are still strong. Paper rubs on the top flaps. Dryness. One corner has a rough spot. Box confirmed as correct box for this set. Pictures show all sides.
PAPER
(not pictured, but here)
1949 Instruction Book
shows significant wear
Inspection Voucher
Instru
